In this class, we'll learn about engineers and creative geniuses like Granville T. Woods (inventor of the telegraph) and Charles W. Chappelle (one of the minds behind long-distance flight). We'll also learn about how history books have often neglected to share stories of Black Americans, and how we can change that. Not only will we learn about these amazing people, we'll also recreate their inventions at home! Kids will learn about the innovations of African Americans, and how African American innovators throughout history have persevered and overcome obstacles. They will brainstorm ideas, test and retest each to create a prototype, and end up with a final product.
Once-a-week classes meet at the same time everyday for 5 days. All Classes meet with the same instructor and kids to build friendships and a comforting routine.
