How to Think About Your Holiday Giving This Year
EDMO is a nonprofit afterschool and summer program where kids learn through science, art, and play. Through programs for families and partnerships with schools and districts, we create joyful learning experiences that cultivate kind, curious, and courageous humans.
As the year winds down, many of us pause to reflect on what matters most — family, community, and the causes we care about. The holidays are a time of connection and generosity, and they’re also a great opportunity to give in ways that align with your values and make a meaningful impact.
If you’re thinking about your year-end giving, here are a few ideas and strategies to help make your contributions go further — for both you and the communities you care about.
1. Give with purpose Before choosing where to give, take a moment to reflect on what issues matter most to you. Maybe it’s supporting youth, education, or equity. Maybe it’s protecting the planet, uplifting local families, or creating opportunities for future generations. The most meaningful giving often starts with the question: What change do I want to see in the world next year?
2. Think beyond cash gifts Monetary donations are always appreciated — but they’re not the only way to make an impact. Consider some creative giving options that can also provide tax advantages:
Gifts of stock or appreciated assets: Donating assets you’ve held for over a year can help you avoid capital gains taxes while giving more to the causes you care about. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you’re 70½ or older, you can donate directly from your IRA to a nonprofit, reducing your taxable income while supporting meaningful work. Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): If you already have a DAF, you can easily recommend a grant to your favorite nonprofit before December 31. If you wish to recommend a grant to EDMO, our EIN is 77-0653711. You can learn more about these and other giving options on our Ways to Give page .
3. Focus on long-term impact Year-end giving isn’t just about a one-time donation — it’s about building the kind of world you want to live in. Consider setting up a monthly gift to sustain the causes you believe in all year long, or volunteering your time or skills to deepen your connection with a nonprofit’s mission.
4. Give where your values meet your vision At EDMO, we believe in creating a more equitable world by ensuring that all kids — regardless of income or ZIP code — have access to hands-on learning and belonging after school and in the summer. Whether you choose to support EDMO or another cause close to your heart, your generosity this season helps make our communities stronger, kinder, and more connected.
