The Benefits are Clear

Research shows long-term benefits of expanded learning programs, especially when focused on SEL.

Afterschool programs provide a significant return on investment, with every $1 invested saving at least $3 through increasing youth’s earning potential, improving their performance at school, and reducing crime and juvenile delinquency.
Programs provided after school hours but during traditional work hours, enable parents and guardians consistent employment.
SEL builds social and emotional skills that increase student engagement and lead to improved academic performance.
Years after students participated in SEL, their academic performance was an average of 13 percentile points higher than students who didn’t participate.

The Need is Great

Many kids encounter obstacles to access high-quality programs.

80% of program providers say they are concerned that there are kids in their community who need afterschool programming but are not able to access it.
Gaps in the variety and frequency of STEM programming exist between families with lower incomes and higher incomes.
High-income families spend almost seven times more on enrichment activities for their children, and this spending gap creates an opportunity gap.
There is an unmet demand for afterschool care, with almost 25 million youth lacking program options.
