Bill Nelson

VP, People and Culture - Braille Institute of America

Interim Board Chair

Bill is an experienced Human Resources executive with a broad range of experience in both the public and private sectors, and for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. He has worked in different countries across Asia, Europe, and North America wth a focus on people development initiatives and organizational planning and development. Bill has been an active member of many boards over his career most recently sitting on the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) board as the Chair of Board Development, Chair of the Executive Compensation Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee. He currently serves on the Ventura County Area Agency of Aging (VCAAA) as Secretary, Vice Chair, and as a representative for the City of Ventura, CA.

Gillian Cervero

Senior Grants Manager, California HealthCare Foundation

Gillian is the Senior Grants Manager at the California HealthCare Foundation, where she has worked since 2007. Prior to joining the Foundation, she worked at the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, where she began her commitment to working in the non-profit sector. Gillian is a Bay Area native and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. Gillian is community service oriented and passionate about children, women, and health issues. She has served on the Board of Directors for Peak Grantmaking (formerly known as the Grants Managers Network) and is a member of the Young Filipino Professional Association and Asian Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy. Gillian enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and rooting on her Bay Area sports teams.

Sandy Ribera Speed

Sandy Ribera Speed is the founder of Ribera Law Firm in San Francisco where she advocates for people in sexual assault, personal injury, and racial discrimination cases.

In addition to a number of high-profile cases Ms. Speed has worked on throughout her career, including, the wrongful death cases of both the Notorious B.I.G. and Michael Jackson, Sandy has achieved successful results for clients in some of the most challenging of cases.  This year, Sandy obtained a significant settlement in a stray voltage injury case against PG & E where her client was a paraplegic. She also recently obtained a substantial result against a contractor and AC Transit in a case where her client was a little boy who suffered a concussion and PTSD when he was injured by a hit and run driver in a crosswalk.

Sandy is currently President-elect of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys of California.

Sharon is devoted to making the world a better place by helping people of all ages foster, express and be their authentic selves in both their work and personal lives. For the last 30 years of her professional life, Sharon has devoted herself to leadership development, transformational work and education. A graduate of UCLA, Sharon is also a Hoffman Institute Teacher, a certified Life Coach and a Business Coach, and has integrated all of her trainings in her leadership of EDMO. Developing the EDMO team to be a fulfilled and aligned collective is what brings her the most joy!

Eduardo is a life-long out-of-school time professional having worked in day camps since the age of 12. From middle school through college, he worked his way up each summer from volunteer to Assistant Camp Director for San Francisco Recreation & Parks. After graduating Cornell University with a degree in Psychology, he directed after school tutoring centers for four years before co-founding EDMO in 2004 with his dear friend and mentor, Sharon Mor. In his role as Executive Director, Eduardo oversees strategic partnerships, development and equity initiatives. He has led workshops and panels at the National Summer Learning Association, BOOST, and SXSWedu national conferences. He is a California Afterschool Advocacy (CA3) steering committee member, and has served on multiple Bay Area workgroups and coalitions focused around STEM, literacy, and summer learning including the The Big Lift, Marin Promise and the Oakland Summer Learning Network. As a Leadership for Equity & Opportunity (LEO) alumni and coach practitioner, he is passionate about forging collaborations that create equitable access to joyful, high-quality out-of-school time learning experiences for ALL children.

Andrea Gains-Germain

Engineering Program Manager, Apple

Andrea Gains-Germain has journeyed through product and technical program management in the Bay Area for the last decade. She earned her MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and learned a ton on the job at Apple, Uber, Spin (Ford Mobility) and a few amazing startups. She is a cross functional collaborator able to work across teams to discern actionable steps and drive progress. She is currently consulting to Zeit Medical, developing a novel stroke detection system. Andrea's #1 job is being a Mom to her son. She volunteers in the classroom and in operations of Glenridge Cooperative Nursery school which her son attends. In her free time, she is an avid cold water swimmer with the Dolphin Club, meditator and reader.

Tiffini Jones is a youth academic enrichment, development, and violence prevention committee member with over 15 years of executive management experience in the nonprofit, education, and entertainment sectors. Implementing and operating programs in various entities, including board governance, stakeholders, reporting, designing K-12 curricula, strategic planning, managing community-based organizations’ risk processes, and handling investigations and regulatory agency inquiries.

A single mother of two, one of the reasons her family joined the EDMO community was not only for the invaluable summer enrichment education but because she saw the value in building a community with parents, and staff that supported bridging cultures, creative perspectives, and alliances that reflect the core brand of global citizens she wants her children to be.

Raised in the Bay Area, she lived in the opportunity gaps we work to close. She was fortunate to encounter people who cared enough to create opportunities for her siblings and herself. As an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer with two organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tiffini witnesses the achievement and opportunity gaps up close and finds being a part of EDMO's Board, a perfect collision of everything she loves – education, research, data, equity, and opportunity.

Gillian Hirst ("Gill")

Breast Cancer Scientist, Associate Professor

Board Member

Gillian is a breast cancer science faculty member at UCSF and a lifelong believer in the importance of stimulating young minds and enjoying science in a creative and holistic way. Her work blends scientific research and leadership training, and she is passionate about mentoring trainees in their research projects. Her parents were both public school teachers, one teaching science and the other art, a perfect environment aligned with the EDMO mission of STEAM education. She has supported EDMO since 2011 with her own family attending camp for many years, and spent a similar length of time as Grants Chair in the PTSA at different public schools to get funding and advise on grants spending.
