What makes EDMO special?

The EDMO Method

EDMO - Summer camps, tutoring, social emotional learning and STEAM

The EDMO Method is at the heart of all things EDMO. Collaboratively designed with a team of experts, including the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, it is our very own SEL framework and our approach to educating the whole child — mind, body, and heart. By incorporating scientifically proven social and emotional learning (SEL) practices into our engaging science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) curriculum; we expand the boundaries of learning and give kids the opportunity to learn and make mistakes in a safe environment.

Amazing Staff

We recruit staff as much for their character as for their experience or academic accomplishments. All of our EDMO staff, practice and recognize each other for the same SEL skills we aim to build in kids. Here is a snapshot of some of the people who work with kiddos at camp.
Camp Directors manage every aspect of their specific site’s day to day operations. Our Directors are college grads, teachers and professionals in the education field. They bring the EDMO Vibe to everything that they do from training their staff to running rallies.
Instructors are the campers main point of contact leading the groups and engaging campers in our hands-on curriculum. Our instructors are college students passionate about working with youth. Counselors support instructors with curriculum and help run organized periods of the camp day. Our counselors range from High School and college students looking to gain experience to teachers wanting a fun summer job. Many are EDMO alumni who just can’t get enough of summer camp.

Meet your Camp Director:

Donnise Powell

Donnise is excited to be joining EDMO for her first year as a Camp Director! Her background is in Child, Adult, and Family Services; a broad field that has allowed Donnise to serve children, youth, and families through early childhood education, social work, and mental health & wellness. Donnise is a Bay Area native, born and raised in Berkeley and the tri-city area, but has had the privilege to live and work all over the world from California to Iowa to Australia to Texas to Georgia. Of all the places she has been it’s been her greatest pleasure and honor to serve communities right here at home in the Bay Area. She is super excited to bring her knowledge and love for helping people heal, grow, and evolve to the kids, families, and staff at EDMO! Donnise is a also proud mother; if you see her daughter Chance Adrielle running around on site, don’t hesitate to give a big smile and say hello!

What parents and kids are saying about EDMO

Palo Alto - Keys School (Lower Campus)
Wonderful staff
Staff/counselors were all a joy to interact with. I found myself often wondering where you found them and how you ended up hiring them. They were all friendly and enthusiastic. Excellent experience that we would love to repeat. Hands down best summer camp either of our children have attended yet and believe me, they have been to many over the years!

Compassionate staff
My child is special needs, and the compassion your staff has shown to my son has been beyond my wildest dreams. The fact that your staff cheers for my son EVERYDAY and shows how much they genuinely care for him is what I think is allowing him to be successful plus the nature of your camp is what excites him. Your camp has put confidence in my son again and that I will be eternally grateful.

All kids feel welcome
The counselors enthusiastically greet the children (by name!), along with parents, at drop-off and pick-up so that we all (especially the kids) feel so welcome. Plus they constantly repeat the children's names while communicate with them. What kid wouldn't feel welcome?

Fun, education and safe experience
I'm floored by this camp! They created an amazingly fun, educational and safe experience for my son. He is so shy and insecure around new groups of people. But it's obvious the organization really trains their staff (more so than any other camp/educational facility I've experienced).
